Beach Girls

Hey there~ you with the salt and sand in your hair and the sun in your eyes! Let’s save you from a senior-session outfit regret…

One of my favorite parts of planning a beach session is helping my girls choose outfits they’ll still love years from now. Beach portraits are timeless when the clothing is timeless, too, so let’s talk about a few things that photograph beautifully and help you feel amazing from start to finish.

✨ OUTFITS

The beach was made for movement. A dress that catches the breeze, a skirt that flows as you walk, or soft fabrics that move naturally can take a pretty photo and make it feel magical. The goal is for you to be enjoying the moment—not worrying about adjusting your clothes every few seconds.

Solid colors almost always win at the beach. Soft textures, beautiful fabrics, and classic colors keep the focus exactly where it belongs—on your face, your smile, and your personality. Years from now, you’ll be thankful your photos feel timeless instead of tied to a trend.

Comfort matters more than most people realize. Between sand, paths, grass, and exploring beautiful locations, you’ll enjoy your session so much more in shoes you’ve already worn and love. Happy feet make for happy seniors. Barefoot of course is always amazing, so pedicure those piggies on soft colors as well. I love a neon pedicure at the beach, but the goal is to get a timeless look and that calls for those soft neutral colors!

🌬️ HAIR TIPS FOR WIND & HUMIDITY

✔ Embrace soft movement.

Beach air is gorgeous, but it loves to play with hair. Loose curls, soft waves, textured styles, and half-up looks tend to photograph beautifully.

✔ Consider a style that stays secure.

A few face-framing pieces are lovely, but having some hair pinned back can help keep your face visible when the breeze picks up.

✔ Pack a brush and a few extra bobby pins.

Quick fixes mean more time making beautiful images and less time fighting the wind.

✨ MAKEUP TIPS

✔ Think natural and polished.

The beach already gives us beautiful light. Soft, natural makeup enhances your features without feeling heavy.

✔ If you love lashes, keep them light.

Natural-looking lashes or very lightweight falsies photograph beautifully and are much less likely to lift or flap around when the wind joins the party. The good lengthening mascara enhances more than you realize!

☀️ SKIN TONE

✔ Come as your beautiful self.

Skip the spray tans and self-tanners before your session. Beach light tends to highlight uneven or orange tones, especially on hands, elbows, knees, and ankles.

✔ Trust the process.

I have editing tools that help create beautiful, natural-looking skin tones without the blotchy or overly orange look that fake tans can sometimes create.

💛 The best part? You don’t have to figure any of this out by yourself. Every senior session includes styling guidance, and we’ll work through your outfits together before session day. My goal is for you to show up feeling confident, comfortable, and completely yourself so we can focus on creating images you’ll treasure for years.
